Teachers Love Office Supplies: Classroom Essentials Every Teacher Needs

As a teacher, I love school supplies and organizers.

As we get settled into the new school year, I’m getting the itch to do some more shopping.

In an effort to restrain myself a little, I’m going to share my must-have office supplies.

But First, a Thought

Before we dive Sound-of-Music style into my favorite classroom things, I want to take a moment to say that teachers should not feel obligated to spend personal money on school supplies. Yes, sure, we spend our own money on our classrooms all the time, but, to be clear, the amount of money you put into your classroom is not a comment on how much you love your students. Read more about this important back-to-school message.

Essentials Schools Should Provide

As many of us return to the classroom after a year of distance learning and pandemic teaching, some new procedures and practices are going to come with us.

For example, many schools expect teachers to have procedures in place for keeping the classroom healthy. For this reason, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, face masks, and first aid are all items school should be supplying.

Also, schools should be supplying other basics like pens, pencils, paper clips, etc.

My Favorite School Supplies

Let’s get to the good stuff! These are my favorite classroom supplies!

First, my school gave us document cameras last year, and I am in love! A document camera has made it easier to model and think-aloud with students. It’s also perfect for guided reading. My document camera ia a IPEVO V4K, and it works with Mac OS, Windows, and Chromebooks!

Second, I purchased a Giotto 32 oz. water bottle last year. The reason I chose this water bottle is that it has a covered straw, which I thought might be helpful in a classroom full of little germ factories. I loved it so much I ended up getting a second one to keep at home!

Third, and this is kind of a splurge, I grabbed a personal laminator during back-to-school. We have a laminator at school, but it’s not the greatest. This little goodie was a present for me! I have the Scotch PRO Thermal Laminator, and it’s wonderful for task cards and classroom games!

Finally, it’s essential to keep thank-you cards in the classroom! Sending thank-you cards throughout the year is an easy way to support other teachers and support staff! I like these floral thank-you notes. As a bonus, send a York Peppermint Patty with each card, and let other teachers know how much their work “mint” to you! Grab my free, cheesy gift tags to accompany these goodies!

Bonus Supplies that I Love

While the items above are my favorite classroom supplies, I have two bonus items that I don’t think are essential but that I use pretty regularly.

Firstly, I received a label maker a few years ago for Christmas. For me, it was the perfect gift! I use it at home as much as I use it at school! The exact model I have isn’t made anymore, but if mine broke, this Brother label maker is the replacement I would choose!

Another item I don’t think you absolutely need but that makes my life easier is a pull cart! When I need to take student books back to the library, or when we’re taking a “field trip” outside, this pull cart makes my life so much easier!

What other office supplies do you love? Let me know what else to try!
